Stanley 36 Refit

Re-fit Stanley 36

We were approached last winter by a customer who was looking for a Stanley 36 he could take his family cruising on.  After some searching we located URSA, a 2006 ST-36 in the Great Lakes and had her trucked back to our yard on Mt. Desert Island.  URSA was originally built for use as a committee boat and therefore had little in the way of accommodations and utilities.  The boat needed hot/cold pressurized water, a reconfigured galley, bow thruster, new battery bank, anchor windlass and bowsprit, swim platform, wooden mast and boom, electronics, and an enclosed/extended pilot house with setts berths for the kids.  The planned departure date was mid July and the boat arrived at the beginning of May.  With the production crew, the rest were busy with Spring commissioning, we completed everything in time for the launch and the family’s cruise.

URSA has returned for the winter and a planned Stage II of the refit during which the pilot house will be enclosed with windows and a helm side door.  Sound attenuation for the muffler and reconfiguring the helm seat will complete the winter’s work.  She will be cruised around Long Island and southern New England for the summer with a planned return to the John Williams Boat Co. for the winter of 12/13 and Stage III of the refit.  This will including the PVC rub and toe rails as the painted on eyebrow to solid teak as well as mahogany aft bulkhead and door.
